What’s New at CHRR

Last week, CHRR team members received an email from Clare Jellick describing our center’s intention to lean heavily into CHRR’s 60th anniversary celebration in 2025. In that communication, it was stated that our primary goal is to use our 60th anniversary as a springboard for spreading the word both within Ohio State and outside of our university about CHRR, our innovative work, our depth of expertise, and our unique services. Secondary goals also were discussed that included:

  • Gaining champions, cheerleaders, and clients (our “3 Cs” focus).
  • Shining a light on our work is centered on helping students, researchers, and our community.
  • Celebrating CHRR’s rich history and longevity, which demonstrates the center’s importance in the research community and our depth of expertise.

We are looking for feedback on these aims, as well as any additional ideas that CHRR team members wish to share with us. So, please take a moment to email Clare with any input that you have at this time!

CHRR's Leadership Team

As noted in last month’s newsletter, the CHRR Leadership Team finished their work on our R&D plan and have now turned their attention toward the development of a Pattern of Administration (POA) document. What is a POA, you might ask? In brief, it is a document that outlines the various ways that a unit (department, college, center, etc.) conducts business. Historically, CHRR had never put together a POA (likely because nobody ever asked for one). That said, Leadership Team member and CHRR associate director Josh Hawley, who is also the director of the Ohio Educational Research Center (OERC), had recently completed a POA for that center, and recommended that CHRR do the same. The Leadership Team discussed the matter and decided that this was a smart move to make at this time, if for no other reason than we could take this opportunity to assemble our main policies and procedures into one document.

It turns out that our timing on this work has been astute, in large part because the College of Arts & Sciences will soon be conducting formal reviews of center governance documents within ASC. So, we get a gold star for being ahead of the game! When the document is completed, I will notify everyone of its placement on our intranet.

  • Nick Ramser, 21 years of service to CHRR.
  • Nicki Stassen, 39 years of service to CHRR.

Badger to Lead Data Curation Project

Kelsey Badger, Research Data Librarian and assistant professor in Ohio State’s University Libraries, is the recipient of a 2024 Network Challenge Grant from the Public Interest Technology University Network. Dr. Badger’s work will be supported by CHRR through work undertaken by our very own Frank Bell. This project, which involves the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and the Erikson Institute Early Childhood Project, will build data capacity in social impact organizations and create best practices in administrative data curation.
