What’s New at CHRR
Hearty congratulations to Jessica Turner, Melanie Bozzay, Scott Langenecker, and other colleagues at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center regarding the recent award of a $19.5M grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to the ARTEMIS Project! ARTEMIS – which stands for Analyses to Reveal Trajectories and Early Markers of Imminent Shifts in Suicidal States – represents a significant collaboration opportunity for CHRR. This study will begin a national recruitment of approximately 13,500 participants in January 2026, including about 4,000 people from Ohio, Michigan and Indiana who have recently visited a healthcare provider.

I took the opportunity to catch up with Dr. Turner about our partnership. “The ARTEMIS project is enormous in its scope of data collection and management needs, and we are very excited to partner with CHRR in making sure it is a success,” she said. “Deaths by suicide have been increasing over the past years, and the ability to identify who is at imminent, short-term risk is a crucial question, for the potential to have timely and effective interventions within days or even hours of an attempt.”
Dr. Turner went on to say that “we will be recruiting thousands of individuals across the continental US, with 4 weeks of daily surveys, as well as other weekly assessments, to develop these markers of increased risk for imminent suicide. It's a tremendously exciting opportunity to really ‘move the needle’ toward increasingly effective suicide prevention.”
Our very own Canada Keck is providing leadership for CHRR on the ARTEMIS Project. Also, thanks to Clare Jellick and Laura Rusnak for their work on the ARTEMIS logo (displayed above) and related marketing and communications activities surrounding this study!
