What’s New at CHRR
CHRR recently became a member of DataCite! DataCite is a community of organizations dedicated to facilitating and promoting access to research outputs and resources. Among other benefits, this will permit CHRR to generate Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for research data stored in our organization repositories. DOIs are a key component of FAIR Guiding Principles and a new requirement for all federally funded research starting to 2026.
In addition, research data under CHRR stewardship will also be ingested into the DataCite Commons, permitting increased visibility across the world. As part of the membership process, CHRR put forth our plan to host a generalist research repository for sensitive research data at the University. When confirming our membership, DataCite told CHRR that "DataCite's Executive Board overwhelmingly supported your member application." Nick Ramser and the IT group already are working to integrate DataCite into our repository software and will be creating our first production repository which is fully compliant with the new federal research requirements in the coming weeks.

CHRR's Leadership Team

Although she has not been a member of CHRR’s leadership team for some time now, this felt like the best section to share the bittersweet news that we are saying goodbye to Elizabeth Cooksey at the end of this month. Bitter because Elizabeth has done so much for CHRR and Ohio State over the years, but sweet because she now can more fully enjoy her retirement. A special thank you is in order here because Elizabeth has spent the last six months of her employment efforts getting the American Population Panel into proper shape so that researchers can more fully realize the potential of the APP’s utilization in their survey activities. Thank you, Elizabeth!

Update to the NIH Public Access Policy
A major update to the NIH Public Access Policy went into effect at the beginning of this month. The new policy removes the 12-month embargo period for making articles supported by NIH funding publicly available through PubMed Central. This applies to all manuscripts accepted for publication on or after July 1st, regardless of when the grant was initiated.
To support Ohio State PIs who are subject to this revised policy deadline, several new resources are now available:
This policy change is part of a larger collection of activities being undertaken by the federal government that surround the FAIR Guiding Principles mentioned in this month’s headline news regarding CHRR’s new membership in DataCite.
